Availability: 100 in stock
  • Condition: Normal age-toning, unsigned, clean. 2-D shaped valentine. The front part is in overall good+ condition. Some perimeter wear and a diagonal crease to bottom left of pot. The second part (the die cut rocking horse)has some issues: the horse's tail has separated from the body and been taped back on with tape and two old 1930 Christmas seals. There are a couple of creases to back legs and down into the rockers and the front legs show similar creasing down into the rockers as well. There is also a long crease across the horses neck that extends to the two children. There is also some creasing to the boy's hat. One of the horse's ears is missing and the other has nearly separated from the head. There is also a small crease under the horse's chin on the bridle.

    Description

Large Vintage German Diecut VALENTINE:Stand-Up Rocking HORSE w/Boy+Girl Riders
Wonderful, die cut valentine stands well by itself and is 8-1/4 inches tall. The horse rocks smoothly back and forth. Brown horse with two cute children taking a ride--the boy is dressed as a cowboy. Diecut in the front shows florals and a heart tree, "To My Valentine." This is a most unusual mechanical valentine. I have never seen one even remotely similar.  It has a "Printed in Germany" text along the edge of the back rocker. I would date this from between the two world wars, probably mid-to-late 1920s. Neither die cut is embossed; both parts are made of a sturdy cardstock.
CONDITION: Please be sure to read the very beginning of the listing for condition issues and have a good look at the photos. Despite the creasing, most of it is not overly disfiguring or obvious. Except for the tail and the ears, this is a nicely preserved valentine with the usual issues that come with large die cut valentines that were difficult to store safely.
ABOUT ME: I have been an antique/vintage card collector since 1984 and am putting many cards up for sale, including several vintage advertising postcards from my vast inventory, both at auction and in my eBay store. My favorite cards are from the holidays and especially from Valentine's Day and Christmas, so I always have lots of cards available up for sale. If you follow me as a seller, my new listings will be posted to you automatically. I list all types, eras, and motifs from Victorian to c.1965 or so and shall be listing individually and in themed lots.
COMBO SHIPPING: I do combo ship, so if you are purchasing multiple items from me, please add them to your cart, then request an invoice and wait to pay until after I have gathered your items, weighed them and sent a revised invoice. I do not require that my buyers pay immediately, so take your time to browse in my store and/or let me know if you will be bidding on auctions that have not yet ended so that I can hold off invoicing until you have finished shopping. Each item added to the package will incur a minimal handling fee to help with the cost of doing business with eBay and PayPal.
GENERAL NOTE ABOUT SHIPPING SCHEDULE: I typically ship twice a week (usually Wednesdays and Saturdays), more during holiday seasons. Please ignore the 10-day shipping time frame that is shown in my listings. EBay made me choose one and sometimes I am called away on a business trip, so occasionally it may take longer than 3 or 4 business days which is usually the time frame within which I ship. It all depends on what day your payment posts. Sometimes I ship the same day payment is received, sometimes the next day, but generally no longer than 5 business days. If I am away on a business trip, I always try to alert buyers that there will be a shipping delay. I am a buyer who never likes to wait for my own packages to arrive, so although I simply cannot ship every day, I do my utmost to get your purchases to you promptly. Please don't let the 10-day projected turnaround deter you from doing business with me. If you pay promptly and let me know that you need your purchase pronto, I shall do my best to get it to you in time.
    CA
RD SHIPPING: I typically ship cards by First Class Letter rate to save you postage. However, it is not possible to do Delivery Confirmation on Letter rate, so if that is a concern to you, please email me before paying to ask for DC and I will switch shipping method to First Class Package rate which includes Delivery Confirmation. Please note that eBay's default setting for First Class shipping is the Package rate, but what you are quoted in my listing is the lower Letter rate (if package weighs 3 ounces or less) with a USPS surcharge for cardboard protection added to envelope.
BOOK SHIPPING: I ship books Media Mail to the US; all other destinations I ship First Class International if book weighs less than 4 pounds, and Priority International if it is over 4 pounds. It is very, very expensive to ship Priority International, even with Flat Rate, so please ask about shipping before you buy. For US buyers, Media Mail is slow, so if you need or want your book quickly, please ask for Priority and I shall re-invoice you.
MAGAZINE SHIPPING: I ship most magazines by First Class Package rate. This includes Delivery Confirmation. Typically, only one or two lightweight magazines will meet the 16-ounce or under maximum for First Class. Beyond that weight, magazines will have to ship Priority or Media.
EVERYTHING ELSE: If item is 16 ounces or less, shipping is by First Class Package rate. Over 16 ounces, item will ship by Priority Flat Rate, by weight (whichever is less expensive), or by Regional rate where available. I do not use Parcel Post because it is nearly the same rate as Priority and ships much more slowly.
MY STORE: Please visit my eBay store, DeVITO'S BOOKS-TV CLOSEOUT JEWELRY for all sorts of items. I stock many nostalgia items, such as vintage children's books, magazines for kids and teenagers, including Teen, Ingenue, 16, Flip, Jack and Jill, Child Life, Wee Wisdom, My Weekly Reader, Junior Scholastic, Dick and Jane and other school texts, series' books, bargain book lots, and unused retro greeting cards and valentines that are so fun to collect, inexpensive to send, and with much better graphics than what are available today. These make great items to give to Baby Boomers or to anyone who collects retro items from the first half of the 20th century. My inventory changes and is added to weekly, so be sure to have a look often at recently listed items. Have fun on eBay unearthing some wonderful treasures and thanks for taking a look at my listings.

Timely payment is expected. If there will be a delay, please email to let me know.
Returns are expensive and it is disappointing for the buyer to pay shipping both ways and end up with nothing, so please ask if you are unsure about anything in my listing. I want you to be happy with your purchase. There are hundreds of thousands of sellers out there and I am pleased that you have chosen to shop with me. Welcome to my store and auctions. There is nothing I like better than repeat customers.
I have been an antiques, books, ephemera and collectibles dealer since 1984, and have been selling on eBay since 1998. Please visit my eBay store DeVito's Books-TV Closeout Jewelry for a wide variety of early and vintage items in many different categories. My specialties are Victorian and vintage valentines, postcards, kids' and juvenile books and magazines, and ephemera (paper) items.  Please stop by and browse.
